CRIRES+ and MUSE Telescope Time
We are excited to announce that our group has recently been awarded 2.5 hours of Very Large Telescope (VLT) time to investigate the nature of the proposed young planet YSES-1b using the newly upgraded VLT/CRIRES+ and the VLT/MUSE spectrographs.
The proposed project will exploit the high spectral resolution of CRIRES and MUSE to detect accretion lines from the companion and measure their luminosity and width. With these information, we will investigate the extinction in the accretion flow, the companion mass and its mass accretion rate. In addition, the spectrum at low wavelengths can unveil wether the emission we detect comes from a young planet or a brown dwarf!
